Arches- Gateway to Hollywood?

After getting mechanically correct, we drove to Moab.  Two reasons:  we wanted to visit Arches NP, and we needed to position our operation near Grand Junction, CO.  My mom was flying to Chicago and boarding a train to meet us on our journey.  She would be on the 3:58pm the next day into the Grand Junction AMTRAK station.

We arrived at Arches Visitor's Center for the movie and handbook.  The movie covered both Arches and Canyonlands parks.  Speaking of movies, we passed a movie set while driving between the two parks.  There were two mock steam locomotives, one with "Jupiter" as it's coal car.   I found out later that the Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp.

We drove to route 128, along the Colorado River to find a camping spot.

Paddy Wagon moored next to Colorado River

The river is beautiful in this area, and popular with campers.  We picked out a spot, ate dinner, and played poker with pretzel M&M's.  Whitney was the big winner.

The canyon was relatively quiet.... until the movie set moved ALL of their trucks and equipment starting about midnight.  This must be a big budget movie, there was a long parade of vehicles much of the night.

Evidently the Lone Ranger has a lot of company.
