Granny Junction

My mom has always talked about visiting Mt. Rushmore, and the nearby Black Hills and Badlands.  We thought this was a good chance to consummate that wish.  She also wanted to ride the train out west and watch the landscape change.
She left her home in Wilmington NC and drove to my sister's in Raleigh.  The next day, my sister put her on a plane bound for Chicago.  She took a cab from O'Hare to the Central Station in Chicago and boarded the the westbound passenger train.
Mom was scheduled to arrive at Grand Junction, CO at 3:58.  We got to the AMTRAK station at 3:55, sliding in to home just under the wire.  Her train was delayed out of Denver, so we used the next hour to replenish our supplies.

When we returned to the station, we (ok, I) enjoyed looking at the old station.  It was boarded up, but evidently someone just bought it.  I hope it is restored to a restaurant or brewery someday.

Mom's train labored into the station at 5:02.

The train finally arrives!

Mom arrives with suitcase and cane.
